About Mountain Laurel Psychiatry
At Mountain Laurel Psychiatry, my mission is simple: to provide thoughtful, evidence‑based psychiatric care that feels human, dependable, and genuinely supportive. I believe mental health treatment should be collaborative, transparent, and tailored to the individual — never rushed, never impersonal, and never one‑size‑fits‑all.
I founded this practice to create the kind of environment I always wanted for my patients: a space where people feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their own healing. Wherever you are in your journey, you deserve care that reflects your needs and what matters most to you.
The Person Behind the Practice -
Mary Harper, PMHNP
I was born and raised in Mississippi, and in 2023, I made West Virginia my home — a place whose mountains, pace, and people immediately felt like where I was meant to plant roots. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my two dogs, hiking local trails, and staying active throughout the seasons. Being outside helps me stay centered, and that sense of clarity is something I bring into my work with patients.
Mental health has always been the field where I felt most at home. Before becoming a provider, I spent five years working as a psychiatric nurse, gaining extensive hands‑on experience supporting individuals across the lifespan. That foundation shaped the way I practice today — steady, thoughtful, and holistic. I completed both my nursing and graduate training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and am board-certified through the ANCC as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
My Approach to Care
I have a particular passion for working with children and adolescents, and care for individuals ages 6 through 65. My approach is balanced, individualized, and rooted in shared decision-making. I provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management (when appropriate) for a range of mental‑health concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety/panic, trauma-related conditions, attention and focus difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions, and obsessive‑compulsive symptoms.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: people deserve care that feels human. Care that respects their story, honors their strengths, and helps them rediscover and achieve their goals. Mountain Laurel Psychiatry was built to reflect that belief — a practice where patients feel heard, understood, and genuinely supported.
